Family found
A missing Roseburg area family was found safe and unharmed after walking for two days near the Douglas-Coos county line. According to a news release from the Douglas Co. Sheriff’s Office, The Magness Family was found by a crew from Independent Thinning Co. near the 9 mile marker of the Burnt Mountain Access Road off of Coos Bay Wagon Road at 6 a.m., Tuesday morning. Their 1994 Chevrolet extra-cab pickup truck became stuck near the top of Burnt Mountain on Sunday. A medical unit responded and found the family was in good heath. They were transported back to the their residence in the Green District south of Roseburg.
Rep. Roblan
He felt the Legislative Session in Salem went “awfully fast,” but District 9 State Representative Arnie Roblan (D-Coos Bay) felt it was also good. “We helped unemployed people gain extensions, and overall I thought the Session was successful.” The Oregon Legislature did send a question to voters for this November on whether or not to make the off year Sessions permanent. “We have already been doing it with Special Sessions because of budget issues. There are only five states that still conduct Sessions every other year.” He says he’s looking forward to hearing how people feel about the ballot question. Regarding coastal issues, the Coos Bay Democrat says in the long run the market will decide the question of the need for liquefied natural gas import terminals. Three are currently proposed in Oregon; Bradwood Landing and Oregon LNG on the Columbia River, and the Jordan Cove Energy Project on Coos Bay’s North Spit. This summer a test wave energy buoy will be deployed off of Gardiner. Rep. Roblan says there are three to four types of buoys currently being used in the world today and he’s interested to see how the test buoy works locally. Three Marine Reserves have been established off the coast. At the Port Orford location, Rep Roblan says we need to work with Rep. Wayne Krieger (R-District 1, Gold Beach) and the Port Orford community to help establish research facilities.

LNG siting
A bill was filed in Congress Tuesday that would return siting control of liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminals to states rather than the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The states gave up that power in 2005 when Congress passed an energy bill. Oregon Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley have joined their counterparts from the state of Washington and others on the East Coast in sponsoring the bill. Three LNG import terminals have been proposed in Oregon. Two on the Columbia River and one on the South Coast at Coos Bay.
Bradwood Landing
The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has set a public meeting regarding the proposed Bradwood Landing liquefied natural gas import terminal east of Astoria on the Columbia River. At this meeting DEQ will provide the most current information about the air quality and water quality permits that the DEQ will require for the proposed LNG terminal and accompanying pipeline project. DEQ Water Quality and Air Quality Program staff will talk about the agency’s authority and role in each permit process and discuss the status of each permit application. DEQ will discuss the potential timeline for drafting permits, holding a formal public hearing and making permitting decisions.
