Upbeats
During the final tune-up to the state championships, Marshfield’s dance team, “The Upbeats” placed second in the 5A Small Team Division at Dallas last weekend and third overall out of the 23 teams participating. Head coach Debbie Brown says “The Upbeats” earned a score of 78, the highest the team has received in the last three years. Crook County took first with an 84. “The Upbeats” are ranked third going into the state competition in two-weeks. “I was also very excited that we earned strong choreography scores, the strongest we have had in 6 years. We have been struggling in this area and have finally put together a dance that has the potential of winning state. One of my senior captains Lindsey Bunnell, my daughter and assist. coach Casi and myself have been working very hard since Thanksgiving on this dance. I have a few more tweaks planned for the next couple of practices that I hope will help. There is always a question when we make changes as to whether they will improve our scores, or lower them, but I am fairly confident these final adjustments will give us the opportunity to earn more points in a couple of the captions at state.”

This week’s Athletes of the Week at Marshfield High School, as nominated by their coaches. Jesse Ainsworth, Boy's Basketball - Brandon Ball- “Brandon is our team manager and has been so instrumental in our success. His value to this team is immeasurable. He's a tireless worker and has been a true joy to have in the program. Brandon is considered an extension to our coaching staff. As a coach this reward would be so well received by Brandon and nobody is as deserving.” Debbie Brown, Dance - Lynsey Bibbens. “Lynsey has struggled this season with frequent Ashma attacks and hips that really shouldn't be dancing. She continues to work through these issues and is one of our strongest, most consistent performers. She is one of those dancers that captures your attention and you can't take your eyes off of her. She is one of two dancers on the team that help me decide what facials we will use as part of our competitive performance and someone I use to set our team standard in this area. This is Lynsey's 3rd year competing at the state level and she is a help to the younger girls on the team. Lynsey also helps to get the team’s hair done for competition which adds to her responsibilities at competition. In many ways Lynsey has contributed greatly to the team this year and we haven benefited by her many talents.” The two will be recognized with a certificate at Thursday’s Marshfield Booster Club luncheon, 11:30 a.m., at Abby’s Pizza.
