Drowned
A 60-year old man drowned on the North Oregon Coast Monday while clam digging. Edward James Koller, of Deer Island, got caught in the surf on a sand bar near Fort Stevens State Park west of Warrenton. He was pulled under about 10:35 a.m. His son and two witnesses pulled him from the water but found him unresponsive.
Airplane
A small airplane landed on Horsfall Beach on the North Spit of Coos Bay Sunday morning, 10:24 a.m. According to an entry on the Coos Co. Sheriff’s log, 43-year old Patrick Elliott reported a broken throttle cable. The owner was en route to help remove it from the beach.
Graffiti
According to an entry on the Coos Bay Police log for Sunday, 6:25 p.m., 800 block So. 5th St., 37-year old male reported, “just moving into location & noticed that his fence has been tagged.” At 2:25 p.m., 700 block So. Broadway, 69-year old male reported “that the back 2nd story building of the small car lot next to U-Haul has been tagged in the alley.” At 2:25 p.m., 700 block So. 2nd St., Cavanaugh, “reports that the auto machine shop at location has been tagged on the alley.” At 2:21 p.m., 500 block So. 4th St., Bimart, 69-year old male reported “tagged on the Golden side of the building.” At 9:58 a.m., 400 block So. 6th St., “wall tagged with graffiti.” At 9:58 a.m., 600 block Donnelly, 45-year old female reported “garage tagged with graffiti.”
CB Schools
The Coos Bay School District Board of Directors will hold a Regular Board Meeting on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, in the Community Room at Milner Crest Education Center, 1255 Hemlock Ave., Coos Bay, Oregon. Marshfield Sun Printing Museum Starts Summer with New Exhibits
The Marshfield Sun Printing Museum opens it doors for the 2010 summer with something new: an interesting visual display of the history of printing featuring dozens of vivid, full color images of antique and historic presses. These images are being displayed for the first time because of recent building improvements that were funded by the Coquille Tribal Community Fund. Volunteers are always on hand during Museum open hours to interpret and demonstrate the Marshfield Sun’s presses and other printing equipment, as well as to answer questions bout the Museum’s exhibits on printing and office technology, and on local history. The Marshfield Sun Printing Museum’s regular summer hours begin the day after Memorial Day: 1pm – 4pm Tuesday through Saturday; Memorial Day to Labor Day. Admission is free. The Marshfield Sun Printing Museum is a unique printing museum located at the north end of Front Street on Coos Bay’s historic waterfront. The Marshfield Sun was a working newspaper office and print shop from 1891 to 1944—and is today essentially as it was left in 1944, with additional exhibits upstairs and on the walls. A Day in Winchester Bay
Tuesday, June1st - Two free concerts will be performed by the 29 Palms Marine Corps Band. A performance will be at noon at Phillip Boe Memorial Park and at 6:00pm in front of the Sportsmen’s Cannery & Smokehouse with their famous Seafood BBQ being offered.
NBHS Awards
North Bend High School will hold its All-School Awards program for grades 9-12, Tuesday, June 1st at 7:00 p.m. in the high school gym. Everyone is welcome to attend and congratulate NBHS student achievement!

Assault
A 25-year old male from Arizona was arrested on the Central Oregon Coast on Saturday, May 22nd, after he allegedly coerced an alleged victim of a domestic assault into telling investigators “there were no problems” at a residence in the Beaver Court area of Lincoln Beach, but later ran when Lincoln Co. Sheriff’s deputies returned. According to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office, Matthew Jacob Yarber was located a short time after he fled by an Oregon State Police trooper assisting in the investigation. He was transported to the county jail at Newport and charged with Coercion, Domestic Assault IV and Strangulation. Bail was set at $145,000.
Intoxicated
A 30-year old male didn’t know how he ended up sleeping in another person’s vehicle. According to an entry on the North Bend Police log for Sunday, 10:20 a.m., 1800 block Maple St., “reported unknown male subject sleeping in her car, most likely intoxicated. Officers responded / advised subject did not know how he ended up there after his birthday party last night / RP did not want to press charges.”
Vandalism
She found her dark green 2003 Ford F250 pickup truck was suddenly pink Sunday morning. According to an entry on the North Bend Police log for 8:45 a.m., 1900 block Grant St., “someone vandalized her vehicle by putting something pink all over it. Officer responded, report taken for Criminal Mischief III. Toothpaste smeared on vehicle.”
Vehicles
According to entries on the Coos Bay Police log for Sunday. At 3:05 p.m., 200 block Norman St., 23-year old male reported “that his pickup truck was parked at location & has been stripped.” At 5:32 p.m., 1300 block Anderson Ave., 50-year old female reported “that her vehicle was just taken from in front of her house.”
ATV accident
A 26-year old female, 15-weeks pregnant, was reportedly injured in an ATV accident on the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area Sunday. According to an entry at 6:10 p.m., Sunday, on the Coos Co. Sheriff’s log, she was complaining of neck pain. Hauser Fire responded and the victim was transported by ambulance to Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay.
Car clouting
A vehicle parked at Seven Devils Wayside was reportedly broken into and a purse stolen Sunday. According to an entry on the Coos Co. Sheriff’s log for 5:47 p.m., a cell phone, driver’s license and Social Security Card were all taken.
Warrant
A reported family dispute Sunday morning, 11:24 a.m., resulted in a warrant arrest from Missouri. According to an entry on the Coos Co. Sheriff’s log, 44-year old David Hoyle was arrested on the 100 block of No. 15th St. after he was found to be wanted for Failure to Appear on a Tamper with MV Court. He was transported to the county jail at Coquille.

Shower likely along the Oregon Coast today with highs around 60 and lows tonight in the lower to mid 50s. Winds from the south at 10-20 mph, and 15-25 tonight. Rain on Wednesday.

American Legion
Tryouts for American Legion baseball will be held on Tuesday, June 1, 4 p.m., at Clyde Allen Field in North Bend. Players between the ages of 16 and 18 are eligible for the North Coos Waterfront team. For more information call Quintin Hall at 297-0142.
OSAA
Two coastal teams host OSAA 4A semi-final playoffs in baseball today. Newport hosts Scappoose and Astoria hosts Philomath. The winners meet Saturday to play for the championship at Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer, north of Salem. North Eugene hosts West Albany in a 5A semi-final today. The Highlanders are the No. 3 team out of the Midwestern League. Semi-finals are also being held in softball today.
NCAA bb
Both Oregon State and Oregon were invited to the 64-team NCAA Baseball Tournament on Monday by the NCAA selection committee. Actually, eight Pac-10 teams made post season play led by top-seeded Arizona State. The Beavers will play in the Gainesville Regional against Florida (42-15), Florida-Atlantic and Bethune-Cookman (36-20). Oregon is in the Norwich Regional against Florida State (42-17), Connecticut and Central Connecticut State (33-21). The Beavers (31-22) will open Friday, June 4th against Florida Atlantic (35-22). The Ducks (38-22) will also play Friday, but against Connecticut (47-14). All of the regionals are double-elimination.
NCAA track
Oregon will have 33 entries (16 men, 17 women) for the NCAA Championships, which will be held June 9-12 at Historic Hayward Field. Men’s Entries (16): 800 Meters - Andrew Wheating, Elijah Greer, Travis Thompson; 1.500 Meters - Matthew Centrowitz, Andrew Wheating, A.J. Oregon State: Football student-athlete Jordan Bishop became the first male Oregon State athlete to advance to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field National Championships since 1988 when he qualified Friday in the high jump after clearing a height of 7-00.25 in a jump-off.
NCAA golf
The University of Oregon men’s golf team has been named the top seed in the 30-team field for the 2010 NCAA Men’s Golf Championships, June 1-6 at The Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tenn. The No. 1 Ducks, fresh off a victory at the NCAA Southwest Regional in Santee, Calif., open the national tourney on Tuesday, June 1, with a 12:12 p.m. ET tee time. There will be 54 holes of stroke play over the first three days to crown an individual champion and provide a cut to eight teams. Those eight, seeded by their finish in the medal format, will play single-elimination match play over the following three days to determine the national champion. Oregon is one of four Pac-10 schools among the top 10 seeds along with No. 2 Stanford, No. 4 Washington and No. 8 USC. The Oregon State men's golf team is also heading to The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn.
