Quake

Crescent City
Crescent City, CA has been chosen one of “America’s Prettiest Towns” by the Forbes Traveler website. The Northern California Coastal community is one of three chosen in California and only one closest to the Pacific Northwest. Sites in Utah and Montana were also chosen. Crescent City Chamber of Commerce officials are excited about being chosen and feel it could lead to more visitors in the future. However, this past summer they experienced a 71-percent increase in visitors at their Visitor’s Center during the month of July and about 13,000 actually came through their doors. Tamera Leighton, Director of the Crescent City-Del Norte County Visitor’s Bureau says they are not really surprised about the designation since fifty-percent of the Redwood National State Park is in their community, their beaches are not crowded, the attraction of the area’s wild and scenic rivers, and their clean air and water. Del Norte County has about 28,000 residents but state officials have dubbed Crescent City as one of the highest growth targeted communities in California with a population expansion of 50-percent over the next 50-years. You can find out more about the area through their website, www.exploredelnorte.com.

The hundreds of research presentations and the conclusions drawn from them will not only advance understanding but should be able to help community leaders, managers, and citizens successfully adapt to a natural world where so much is in flux.
