Brookings, Oregon

Brookings is the southernmost city on the Oregon coast and abuts the Oregon-California border. Its economy is diversified between lumber, fishing, tourism and service-oriented sectors. As of 2007 it had a population of 6,455. Retirees make up a sizeable minority of its residents. The population of the greater Brookings area, which includes Harbor, is in excess of 13,000. Although Brookings' temperatures are considered warm for the Oregon coast, reaching 70 to 80 degrees throughout the year, heavy rain is common in the winter, as is dense fog during the summer. Brookings is host to two annual festivals: Winter Art and Chocolate Festival and Festival of the Arts.
