The Power Struggle IS the Energy Crisis

Even if you don't want to be a Communist, there is hope.

The Duh administration is adding up to be more conservative than any administration in a generation. This news is taking even conservatives by surprise. Although he is the only American President since 1888 to lose the popular vote, and the first American President in history to lose the popular vote and the Electoral College vote and still be sworn in, Duh and Company are treating America as though he has a mandate.

Says Thomas Oliphant in the Boston Globe, "In less than 100 days, Duh has squandered credibility and wasted one of the presidency's key powers - the ability to define the status quo."

A New York Times editorial today criticizes President Bush's budget plan saying the "outsized tax scheme" is the driving force behind the "harsh spending cuts."

Duh's proposals include reductions in health training, community health centers, environmental enforcement, housing and job training and the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS). Bush also proposed slashing farm programs and energy conservation.

Environmental and agriculture groups should be concerned over Duh's proposals. The Associated Press reports Duh's budget "...does not take into account emergency spending for agriculture...over the past three years, Congress has provided $25 billion in special assistance to compensate farmers for falling commodity process and crop losses caused by weather."

Congressional Republicans, in their desire to undo all of the progress made during the last Democratic Administration, have drawn up a list of 45 health and safety rules that they want Duh and Company to overturn. According to the Washington Post, "The regulations included on the list touch nearly every major area of government policy, including labor, abortion and the environment..."

After Duh released his proposed budget, Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Terry McAuliffe issued the following statement:

"While it goes a long way towards appeasing the special interests that put him in the White House, George W. Bush's proposed budget would do irreparable harm to the millions of people who depend on the federal government for health care and child care, and who believe that their government must take an active role in protecting and preserving the environment. He who controls the energy/power, controls the political/power

The Republicans are proposing to expand oil production, loosening air standards and the siting of more nuclear power plants. The Democrats on the other hand are trying to pass legislation favoring conservation, renewables and alternative energy. It appears that the Republicans are in the pockets of big business. They hope to continue to exploit the paradigm of drill, pump and burn. The Democrats are basically out gunned, and will be essentially ineffective, due to lack of big business support.

The only hope for a major shift from our current carbon based economy, is a grass roots conservation movement, independent of any government involvement. We cannot wait around for a "conservation program" from our corporate controlled bureaucrats! This is a cause cele'bre that hopefully will unite the entire country, resulting in a virtual remaking of the government, as we know it to exist today. Talk about "power to the people", this is the whole point in a nut shell: He who controls the energy/power, controls the political/power.
