The Greatest Force In The Universe: Your Mind!

It was over 20 years ago that I wrote a small two page booklet titled Thought Power. According to the dictionary, thought is the product of mental activity, that which one thinks; a body of thought. This power of the mind is unbelievable and can only be controlled by the individual. Throughout recorded history every man made object or achievement began first with a Thought.

When thoughts are directed with definiteness of purpose, persistence, and a burning desire—thoughts become powerful. Nearly every day a new book is released or a magazine article is published on something to do with the mind. Every medical student learns, at least in passing, that the mind can affect the body. They learn that some people get better when they believe (falsely) they are getting medicine.

When patients get better by ingesting a sugar pill, medicine defines it as the placebo effect. Rob Williams, founder of PSYCH-K, an energy-based psychological treatment system, suggests that it would be more appropriate to refer to it as the perception effect. He refers to the belief effect to stress that our perceptions, whether they are accurate or inaccurate, equally impact our behavior and our bodies. The belief effect is an amazing testament to the healing ability of the body/mind. Unfortunately, the placebo effect is quickly glossed over in medical schools so that students can get to the real tools of modern medicine like drugs and surgery. The placebo effect should be a major topic of study in medical school. Doctors should receive training to recognize the power of our internal resources. Doctors should not dismiss the power of the mind as something inferior to the power of chemicals and the scalpel. It is clear that effectiveness of placebo pills are a threat to the pharmaceutical industry. In fact, the placebo effect should be the subject of major, funded research efforts.

Just recently, a loyal customer introduced me to a wonderful book titled, The Biology of Belief, which was written in 2005. The author, Dr. Bruce H. Lipton, Ph.D. was a former medical school professor and research scientist. His experiments, and those of other leading-edge scientists, have examined in great detail the mechanisms by which cells receive and process information. When provided a healthy environment for cells they thrived; when the environment was less than optimal, the cells faltered. When he adjusted the environment, these "sick" cells revitalized.

Have you ever wondered why some folks tend to have a cold or allergy attack or an upset stomach or bowel problem after a stressful/angry experience? According to Dr. Lipton, our mind controls every cell in the body which includes the blood supply. Your perception of your environment dictates the function of your cells which includes everything involved in your body. During a stressful situation your brain directs your blood supply to your extremities to run or attack. Your immune system shuts down and your blood leaves the entire area where digestion is supposed to occur. Your blood is also directed to leave the frontal brain where your logical thinking occurs and goes to the back of the brain where your reactions occur.

This bit of insight explains why your best thinking does not occur when you are under stress. It also explains why you may come down with a cold or upset stomach during or just after a stressful/angry experience.

How Important Are B Vitamins?

These vitamins are required for proper functioning of the brain, nervous system, and the formation of blood. They are also involved in the metabolism of every cell of the human body, especially for proper DNA synthesis and regulation, but also for fatty acid synthesis and energy production. Harvard researchers writing in the Journal of the American Medical Association stated that women could cut their risk of heart disease by half with daily consumption of B vitamins.

B vitamins are responsible for igniting a chemical cascade within the body known as methylation. This process rids the arteries of the damaging molecule known as homocysteine. The lower your levels of homocysteine, the less risk you have of suffering from cardiovascular disease.

Supplements For Dental Health

One of the more important supplements for general good health is at least 100 mg of CoQ10 daily. Levels of this powerful antioxidant are more than 60 percent lower in people with unhealthy gums, and when CoQ10 is supplemented their gums improve. In fact, some researchers consider gum disease to be a marker for CoQ10 deficiency. It is also very important for cardiovascular and heart health. CoQ10 enables every cell in your body to work more efficiently.

At least 50-100 mg of B-complex vitamins for healthy oral tissues
It is important to know that B and C vitamins are water soluble and usually out of your body in 3 to 4 hours so they should be taken more than once per day.

At least 50-80 mg of zinc to promote healing
Zinc deficiency is common in people with gingivitis.

At least 1,000-5,000 mg of mineral-buffered vitamin C in divided doses throughout the day to promote healing
Some vitamin C products also contain flavonoids which improve blood flow and enhance oxygen and nutrient delivery throughout the body.

What About Your PH?

For vibrant health, all that water—a whopping 70 percent of your body's weight—must be maintained at a proper pH balance—not too alkaline, not too acidic. "pH" simply means "potential of Hydrogen" and is measured on a scale of 0 to 14. A healthy person with perfectly balanced pH has a reading of about 7.4 in their blood and about 7.25 in their tissues. That means every cell in your body should be slightly alkaline. That's good because your cells need to stay slightly alkaline to survive—and the truth is, we all live—and we die—at the cellular level!

Chakra Energy Candles

Chakra energy candles combine metaphysics with aromatherapy and can facilitate psychic and physical healing. They are enhanced with essential oil blends selected for their aromatherapy benefits relative to balancing each chakra. As the chakra energy candles burn they release beneficial, therapeutic vapors.

Thought For The Day:

Think of life as a journey and remember that it is important to enjoy the journey and not the destination. The purpose of why we are here is to learn and experience our life's lessons. How we perceive these lessons can be important to our health and well being!
