SALMAN RUSHDIE -- In order to understand what is generally happening in the environs of the Middle East, it behooves one to have a general understanding of Pakistan today. In this regard, it is helpful to know the writings of the truly gifted and unfortunate schmuck Salman Rushdie, and particularly for valuable information that may be gleaned about Pakistan from his book titled Shame.
In Shame, Rushdie tells a Benazir Bhutto story. Just as there is a connection between India and Pakistan - not a close one but borders are borders; right next to each other, there is a strong Rushdie-Shame-Benazir connection. Just as Rushdie was found out to be a totally wasted talent when for the sake of mere re-creation he turned against himself and against his own commitment to peace by portraying a Muslim as less than honorable (and received for himself a fatwa* to match his betrayal instead of a book award), Benazir has a track record of never having given up on her father's homeland and legacy. While background on Benazir is easy enough to find in the Google, an insight to Benazir Bhutto, and her father (and her mother for that matter), and a pre-Islamic Revolution (1979) Pakistan lies between the covers of Salman Rushdie's Shame. In trade for some considerations, Benazir Bhutto could lift the lid on what is happening any day anyone would ask. Unfortunately, after the 2000 "selection" and the administration's antics in Afghanistan, the United States has no credibility (as credibility is defined within the context of Shame). Meanwhile India and Pakistan have the Bomb, and Benazir is at the mercy of Pakistani Intelligence and mischief. If the truth be known, Pakistani politicos are less inclined to dance with the U.S. than the Sa'udi establishment is. See The New York Times " Dancing with Dictators" editorial or the International Herald Tribune archive if you are not a NYT subscriber. In or out of context excerpt from Letters from the Editor 04MAY2004: Unlike the Vietnamese, who considering the number we did on them, have treated returning U.S. soldier visitors with compassion and a philospohical understanding of what came down in Vietnam - see Dan Ellsberg's Secrets: A Memoir of Vietnam and the Pentagon Papers, (the movie) The Pentagon Papers and The power of forgiveness by Jane Lampman - the Arabs forgive nothing! They forget nothing! They know, better than ordinary, non-news junky Americans just exactly what and how the Bush White House did what they did and why. Forget WMD and Saddam. In the Arab mind's eye it is about the evil and greedy (ugly) Americans using Iraqi real estate to set up an empire under an Israeli-like flag, to perpetuate the Israel occupation of Palestine, and to pay for the whole operation with Iraqi oil. That's the "perception (equals reality)" anyhow. It's too bad too that Salman Rushdie lost so much perceived credibility with his Satanic Verses, because in his novel Shame, Rushdie explained (20 years ago) "how" the forgive and forget mind of Muslim culture works, and how and why after a calculated risk he is still alive today. [To be continued]. Daniel Pipes -- Emerging as the most Muslim-hating "Arabicist" on the face of the earth, Daniel Pipes is (likely) paid well (by someone) to write, give speeches and do the talk-show circuit in behalf of his handlers. Because of the over all religious, cultural and historic ignorance of the U.S. intelligence agencies, western media, and the ordinary American people, with some success Pipes is able to spread the kind of bullshit his arrogant handlers think "works" for their agenda. Rather than bring an understanding of what's what, as a paid and predictable forecaster of very bad news, Pipes justifies for his masters' reasons for the Defense Department to spend more taxpayer money and making more wars. In other words, it could be said to the likes of Pipes: "You stand by as the Israelis' secular Zionists -- whom you support through the supply of arms and money -- slaughter untold numbers of innocents in the West Bank, then blame the Palestinians for bringing the terror upon themselves." [MORE]. The insanity of Pipes' logic is what he is making a full time profession of. According to CNNfn's Lou Dobbs, a pro-Wall Street pro-gambling fascist fruitcake, "Pipes is one of the most influential conservative thinkers on U.S. policy in the Middle East" TRUE! and speaking of who Pipes speaks for and why, as a member of the Defense Department's Special Task Force on Terrorism and Technology boondoggle, he and his Military Industrialist Complex buddies profit handsomely. For all you folks who loved the Cold War in the name of hating Communism, Pipes has dredged up all your old hatreds to now aim at Islam and Muslims. He's also attempting to put "Nazism" off on to Muslims and Islam so no one will notice his bosses (and Dobbs' dead and dying stock portfolio managers, the CNN advertisers, his accounting firm friends, corporate board members, CEOs and the Military Industrial Complexers) are the actual Y2K+ Nazi supporters of wholly unjustified domestic terror that is disengaging the practical application of our Constitution and diminishing its accompanying Bill of Rights' value. While Dobbs has taken up Pipes' banner of philosophic activism against Muslims as diversionary scapegoats for the tanking economy, in behalf of all of the above, Dobbs remains silent on the economic implications of the Bush tax cut which will redistribute wealth in an unprecedented manner; putting a trillion dollars into the bank accounts of the already wealthiest Americans. He makes no mention in his cable news broadcasts of Islamic alternatives to banking and finance that protect the savings and retirement accounts from corporate corruption and political bribery. Dobbs is an expert in finance but has chosen to ride the Dan Pipes bandwagon. While he was busy attacking Muslims, Dobbs missed the gold story from start (still in progress) to finish and why? Because his investment banker buds do not prosper from truly safe investment harbors. Dobbs is silent on the attack of those who hold gold as opposed to stocks that have lost billions for the ordinary investor while corporate executives and investment bankers pocketed untold billions. South African blacks are ousting whites from the gold profits process. Gold is becoming the currency of an underground global economy. Following the Pipes-Dobbs logic to Islam and the finance crossroads, gold holders should soon be considered terrorists. When the government gestapo of the Fuhrer Bush starts house-to-house searches for contraband, gold will be on the top of their scavenger hunt list. Instead of promoting discord, and if Dobbs was a true messenger, he would be telling his listeners to turn away from war and get back to business! For marketing purposes, Pipes has conceptualized a group he calls "Islamists" that he says Muslims are the first victim of. Authentic religionists including devoted Christians, Jews, Sikhs, Hindus and Muslims are not buying into his lie. Salam Al-Marayati, director of the Muslim Public Affairs Council says, "Terrorism has no faith. Terror is an unjust response to injustice." In reading the Pipes newsletters and articles, which is difficult as in disgusting, there is no acknowledgment or even understanding of what Salam Al-Marayati is saying. Pipes is nonetheless the King of Kong on Islamists-ism, and he is one who is being heard (on cable and radio talk shows) and read (on his website and in dozens of in-print puked-out books). What he says and writes, more so than what others are saying is what needs to be refuted. Not for Muslims and others of faith, but for the fearful citizens who he has made it his mission in life to scare all the more with his lies. Pipes told Dobbs, "Our first goal must be to destroy this radical utopian ideology ("Islamism"), as we did fascism in World War II, communism in the Cold War. We must now in this war destroy Islamism." Why bullshit? The media whore says: "Islamism" but he really preaches the destruction of Islam and Muslims, and to preserve zionist settlements while taking stipends from the U.S. defense and corporate oil interests. Pipes-Schemes MotherJones The Truth About Charlie Krauthanger and Dan Pipes by CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER More on Dan Pipes - Statement from Senator Tom Harken The Islamophobe Next Door By DANIEL PIPES GROUPS REACT TO RECESS APPOINTMENT OF 'ISLAMOPHOBE' Wednesday is 'National Call-in Day' to oppose Daniel Pipes appointment On THURSDAY, AUGUST 14, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), along with a number of other Muslim, Arab-American, civil liberties, and interfaith groups, will hold a news conference in Washington, D.C., in reaction to reports that President Bush will soon issue a recess appointment for Daniel Pipes, regarded by many Muslims as the nation's leading Islamophobe. (A recess appointment allows the president to circumvent the normal approval process in the Senate.) Those same groups have designated WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 13, as a "NATIONAL CALL-IN DAY" to oppose the Pipes appointment. The thousands of people who have already contacted the White House and Senate to oppose Pipes' nomination are being asked to call, e-mail or fax the president to express their concerns about a recess appointment. "This back-door move by the president is a defeat for democracy and an affront to all those who seek peace," said CAIR Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. "Pipes' appointment calls into question all of President Bush's previous statements claiming that the war on terrorism is not an attack on Islam and shows total distain for the democratic process." The president nominated Pipes to the board of directors of the United States Institute for Peace (USIP) in April, but his nomination has been stalled by concerns about Pipes' bigoted anti-Muslim and pro-war views. The nomination has been opposed by the Washington Post, the Dallas Morning News, the Chicago Tribune, as well as many foreign policy scholars and Jewish peace groups. At a meeting in July of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, the body that would have taken the initial vote on the nomination, several senators expressed opposition to Pipes' bigoted views. That meeting ended without a vote. For Dan Pipes, who has made a (professional) career out of Muslim-hating to be in any way connected with an organization that even pretends to be about peace is beyond obscene. Besides the insult to Muslims and even Authentic People of the Book (Jews, Christians and Sabian Baptists), there appears in Bush to be a total disengagement from reality; like seating Salman Rushdie on the Islamic Republic of Iran's Expediency Discernment Council or nominating him to head up the Islamic Republic's 2003 Book Fair. [MORE] > That's really a slur, as Pipes repeatedly makes the distinction between > Islam the religion and Militant Islam or Islamism the ideology. His _Militant Islam Reaches America_ is > essential reading. Please don't mistake any criticism I made of Dan Pipes >> For Dan Pipes, who has made a (professional) >> career out of Muslim-hating or any criticism I made of Zionism into any variation of "hate speech" which is what indeed, and in a round about way you did imply with your "Accusing Pipes of Muslim-hating springs from the same type of mentality - albeit in different quarters - that would hurl the charge of anti-Semitism at anyone who criticizes militant Zionism" statement. That is too shallow for this conversation, and for this well intentioned GULFWAR-2-DEBATE list. Dan Pipes has been around for 20 years or more, establishing his "expertise" on Islam without yet having figured out that Islam means peace, and an Authentic Muslim is merely one who has actualized his commitment to peace. Without knowing that, whatever else he has to say on the subject is for the benefit of ignorant people who he can feed his anti-Islamic venom to, which they eat up because his venom feeds their racism and bigotry, and/or ethnocentricity and/or xenophobia. Pipes hands out his version of Islam with no regard for the Sufi (who are more devoted to God than anyone except maybe the little old ladies who with beads in hand pray after Mass). Neither does Pipes dare accurately cite the Scholarly (Islamic) works of Sayyid Qutb, the author of "In The Shade of al-Qur'an". Is this the man who inspired Bin Laden? Robert Irwin http://www.guardian.co.uk/g2/story/0,3604,584478,00.html The Philosopher of Islamic Terror By Paul Berman http://www.mail-archive.com/foib%40ianbell.com/msg00102.html Maybe you could cite a single example of Pipes making a distinction between Islam (the religion) and "Militant Islam or Islamism the ideology" - as he has trashed dozens of highly respected and justifiably respectable Islamic scholars, who just happen to be Muslims, Arabs and/or Muslim-Arab-Palestinians, most of whom also happen to be Americans; well connected by their citizenship to our First Amendment rights. Does anyone remember Free Speech? Freedom of Religion? The revival of a Dan Pipes kind of McCarthyism and "blacklisting"? With the exception of the Tom Freidman-types who truly struggle with their zionist leanings in a conscientious although schizophrenic way, there is no middle ground in zionism; as with preganacy or racism and bigotry, either you are or aren't. Dan Pipes is a Zionist to the core of his human existence. Furthermore, Dan Pipes is well positiond in the neocon clique which is only one click away from the Project for a New American Century (PNAC) http://www.newamericancentury.org/publicationsreports.htm (Acrobat download) that has in fact become U.S. foreign policy. What I originally posted, while Pipes (undeniably a Zionist) got mention because he was the one nominated to the U.S. Institute of Peace, he was nominated by Bush, who in making such a controversial nomination proves himself to be a complete idiot; who fuels more Muslim distrust then helping in any kind of no-war (at worst) or (at best) peace process. You (Bill), have reduced me (personally) down to calling the kettle black or some variation of anti-Semitic? Although he might deny it, Pipes is anti-Islamic. Although he denies it, Pat Buchanan is anti-Semitic. I am not anti-Semitic, and have 20 years of study and public denunciation of anti-Semiticism notched to my guns. Unfounded hatred toward Jews (anti-Semitism) is a whole different thing than characterizing Zionists to be what they are. Nazis are anti-Semitic. Zionists are anti-Islamic - not only are they anti-militant Islam, they are also anti-Islam, anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian Arab - Muslim AND Christian Palestinians, there is no place for in a Zionist Israel. Speaking of essential reading, and Dan Pipes' whys and wherefores of "Militant Islam" OR the "Project for a New American Century (PNAC)" reaching America, Dan Pipes is as an "official" U.S. policy spokesman for an administration that is in fact pro-Zionist, hence, anti-Islamic, anti-Muslim, anti-Arab (and anti-Persian or Iranian) and anti-Palestinian. Furthermore and finally, I make no distinction between Zionism and "militant Zionism". All Zionism is about Palestinian real estate; a matter that won't be settled (for the Zionist) until all Palestinians are removed from "Israel" and which then causes hardship not only for Palestinians, but also for the Israeli and ordinary Jews everywhere. If there is ANY justification for taking out grievances over the Zionists against the Israeli and the Jews (even world wide), it is that the Israeli and the Jews themselves don't, won't or can't get real about what Zionism is and what it means to the existence of a Palestine at peace. See the Tom Freidman "struggle". Zionists have no more place at a peace table than the KKK has a place at the NAACP, or a fox guarding the hen house, as they say. Is it really that complicated? Well, apparently it is for the President of the United States, who would nominate a Zionist a place at the U.S. Institute of Peace, or in any way rely upon the advice of Zionists and pro-Zionists in his decision to make war in Iraq - which is exactly what did happen, and what caused us to meet here to discuss these related matters. 07APR2003 Muslims Protest Bush Nominee - By Alan Cooperman Groups Say Peace Institute Choice Sends 'Wrong Message' It's Round 3 of the bare-knuckle slugfest between Daniel Pipes and U.S. Muslim organizations. DISCUSSION * NEWS * IRAQ BODY COUNT * SARS BODY COUNT![]() ![]() Franklin Graham, the son of America's "most revered evangelist" Billy Graham called Islam a "very evil and wicked religion." "I do not believe Muslims are evil people because of their faith. But as a minister, not a politician, I believe it is my responsibility to speak out against the terrible deeds that are committed as a result of Islamic teaching." "The Koran provides ample evidence that Islam encourages violence in order to win converts and to reach the ultimate goal of an Islamic world." As a typical uppard conservative racist and a bigot of the "fundamentalist" right-wing nutso and so-called "Christian" stripe**, little Frankie-boy has been chosen to lead the American religious "crusade" against Islam and Muslims. In much the way Dan Pipes preaches in a secular manner to mostly pro-Zionist sympathizers (except religious), Franklin preaches in the jargon and in "tongues" to the Ashcroft-type religionists (Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson and Bob Jones) and their followers and students. Watch for the Billy Graham "Crusades" to become more Nazi-like political rallies after Franklin's Jew-hating father dies. Remember, before young Franklin became a "reverend" he was a full-blown alcoholic and God-hating drug addict, but who sacrificed his street life and motorcycle for the robe when his father threatened to banish him from access to the Graham family fortune. [To be continued]. 05APR2003 The new Christian crusades - Bill Berkowitz / WorkingForChange After 9/11, pundits quickly relegated "irony" to history's dust bin. There was nothing left to laugh about. Several months later, there were no hosannas or fanfare when irony slithered back into our lives. These days, irony is alive and well, thank you, as recently embodied by several post-war proselytizing-in-Iraq proposals announced by fundamentalist Christian organizations. With each passing day the U.S. rains down more death and destruction on the people of Iraq. Outrage within the Muslim world is rapidly growing. When the war against with Iraq is over and occupation begins, the Bush Administration plans to establish an American-led government -- with ample benefits reaped by the president's long-time political supporters and oil industry cronies. Closely behind these grim reapers there will follow a host of fundamentalist Christian leaders, plowing the sand for new recruits. Over the past ten days, several fundamentalist Christian organizations announced plans to prop further open the window of opportunity by participating in the rebuilding of Iraq. Before the war, none seemed particularly interested in working to avoid the situation the Bush Administration has caused in the country, and now, none seem interested in whether or not they're invited or even desired by the people of Iraq. And, in what can only be referred to as uber-chutzpah, the Rev. Franklin Graham recently said that his organization, Samaritan's Purse, will lead the way. You may remember the Rev. Billy Graham's son, the Rev. Franklin Graham, lashed-out at all Muslims shortly after September 11th. At that time the Rev. Franklin Graham called Islam "wicked." Now, along with several other U.S. and Canadian-based fundamentalist Christian groups, he is organizing Christian welcome wagons stuffed with Bibles and band-aids. Remember, Rev. Franklin Graham is one of several fundamentalist Christian leaders who engaged in an Islam-directed orgy of hate. In "How Islam-Bashing Got Cool," published several months after 9/11, Deborah Caldwell of Beliefnet pointed out that Muslim-bashing went beyond "commentators criticizing Muslim extremists." They included "remarks that attack[ed] Islam, Muslims, the Qur'an, and the Prophet Muhammad as pervasively and inherently bad." Here comes da' Rev. Evangelist Franklin Graham, having already virtually taken over his father's organization, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, runs his own relief agency. Samaritan's Purse is one of the world's largest Christian relief agencies, and it "is mobilized and poised to assist those affected by the war to liberate Iraq," reports AgapePress, a Christian News Service. Shortly after September 11, the Rev. Franklin Graham stunned Muslims and the Bush Administration by bashing Islam. He declared: "The God of Islam is not the same God. He's not the son of God of the Christian or Judeo-Christian faith. It's a different God, and I believe it is a very evil and wicked religion." Later, he told NBC News: "It wasn't Methodists flying into those buildings, it wasn't Lutherans. It was an attack on this country by people of the Islamic faith." Regarding his current crusade, Graham told Beliefnet: "We realize we're in an Arab country and we just can't go out and preach." However, he added, "I believe as we work, God will always give us opportunities to tell others about his Son. We are there to reach out to love them and to save them, and as a Christian I do this in the name of Jesus Christ." "Franklin Graham obviously thinks it is a war against Islam," said Ibrahim Hooper, spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations. "This is a guy who gave the invocation at President Bush's inauguration and believes Islam is a wicked faith. And he's going to go into Iraq in the wake of an invading army and convert people to Christianity? Nothing good is coming of that." Hopping on board the soul saver's train The Rev. Graham isn't alone in pursuing this twenty-first century Christian crusade. The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), the nation's largest Protestant denomination and the kingpin of proselytizers, is similarly planning a large relief effort in Iraq once the war ends. According to Beliefnet, five years ago, the SBC "reorganized its International Missions Board to focus on the part of the world where Muslims live. That year, the Convention published a prayer guide for use when praying for the conversion of Muslims." The Rev Donald Wildmon's American Family Association (AFA) also has a plan for a relief effort incursion. Despite an AFA Web site banner-headline that reads "Is Islam a Peaceful Religion?" (the AFA answers the question no) the pastor-with-a-plan hopes "to help raise money to help the displaced people of Iraq rebuild their lives and let them know that Christians in America care for them and want to help them through their struggle against tyranny." That's a thought. While Christians (and Jews) in the Bush Administration mastermind the wholesale destruction of the country and the slaughter of thousands, Rev. Wildmon wants Iraqis to know that "compassionate" Christianity doesn't stop at the water's edge. Then, there is Jeff Christopherson, pastor of the Sanctuary of Oakville, a Southern Baptist-affiliated church just outside Toronto, Canada. According to Agape Press, Christopherson "hopes to plan churches in Baghdad once the regime of Saddam Hussein is deposed." Christopherson claims his church "has made substantial contacts with Iraqi Christians living in Toronto" and they "say their homeland is ready for the gospel. [Christopherson] says there are some 500 believers in Baghdad who are ready for the liberation." When the "pipeline" opens, Christopherson says, his church will be ready. "With this apparent window of opportunity coming, we want to jam that window open with a pipeline and go in there so we can see churches established in Baghdad. "We're wanting to at least establish some sort of a network," he says, "and God has given us favor in some pretty high-level circles to give us an entrance into [Iraq]." Finally, the anti-abortion American Life League (ALL) is warning that if Planned Parenthood has its way, the women of Iraq will be lining up for abortions in the near future. In a press release headlined "PPFA [Planned Parenthood Federation of America] President Gloria Feldt Wants Abortion Forced on Iraqi Refugees In Spite of Muslim Beliefs," ALL claims that as soon as the shooting war ends, the abortion rights war will commence. "Planned Parenthood's lack of integrity truly knows no bounds!" said Jim Sedlak, Executive Director of American Life League's STOPP International. "The Iraqi people are embracing the prospect of real freedom from oppression, yet Planned Parenthood wants to wage its own war on Iraq's pre-born children through its dictatorial regime of abortion and contraception." Can anyone keep Graham home? Earlier in the week, Beliefnet's Steven Waldman reported that White House spokesman Ari Fleischer "said he'd have no comment on Graham's activities, and referred questions to the State Department." According to Waldman, a State Department spokesman "referred calls to the Agency for International Development, which coordinates humanitarian aid. 'What private charitable organizations choose to do without U.S. government funding is ultimately their decision,' said Ellen Yount, an AID spokeswoman. 'How could the U.S. government control that? We can't just say to an organization, Òyou can or cannot do something,Ó if we don't fund them. Imagine what the United States Congress would say to us.'" The publisher of the British Muslim magazine Q-News responded to the reports about Graham by writing in The Guardian, "For the few remaining Muslims who doubted the crusading nature of the coalition forces, the final blow came last week." The website khalifah.com, an Arabic site, reported the news as "Enhancing the conviction among some Arabs and Muslims that the U.S.-led war of aggression on Iraq is part of a new 'crusade' campaign." Can you think of anything less welcome and more disturbing and humiliating to the Iraqi people than the sight of the Rev. Franklin Graham riding into shattered villages with band-aids in one hand and Bibles in the other? Waldman asks: "So why has no one in the administration been willing to rein in Graham?...Are domestic politics keeping Bush or Powell from doing what's right for the country? Sure looks like that way. If that's not the reason, why won't they tell Franklin to stay home?"

17APR2003 Pentagon's Preacher (Franklin Graham) Irks Muslims (CBS) In a move angering some Muslims, the Pentagon's Good Friday service will be offered by an evangelical preacher who dubbed Islam "very evil and wicked" in 2001. An Army spokesman says "a relatively small number of Muslims" at the Pentagon felt the invitation was inappropriate because of Rev. Franklin Graham's past anti-Islamic comments. But Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Yantis says Christians at the Pentagon had asked for Graham, and the Pentagon tries to accommodate the worship needs of all religious groups. Yantis notes that separate Muslim services are scheduled at the Pentagon the same day because Friday is the Islamic sabbath. Graham was heavily criticized for calling Islam "a very evil and wicked religion" in an interview with NBC not long after the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington. He wrote in a subsequent Wall Street Journal column that he does not believe Muslims "are evil people because of their faith. But I decry the evil that has been done in the name of Islam, or any other faith - including Christianity." "I believe it is my responsibility to speak out against the terrible deeds that are committed as a result of Islamic teaching," he wrote, singling out the repressive treatment of women, and the absence of religious expression, in some Muslim countries. He also said that "the persecution or elimination of non-Muslims has been a cornerstone of Islam conquests and rule for centuries," and has since made other comments attacking Muslim for lack of religious tolerance. Graham, son of famed evangelist Billy Graham, recently sparked fresh anger with plans to send Christian relief workers into Iraq when the war ends. Samaritan's Purse, the relief agency headed by Graham, is poised to provide shelter, water and medical assistance inside Iraq as soon as military clearance is available. "As American and allied troops roll into Iraq, Samaritans Purse has a well-equipped team already on the ground in the Middle East ready to help thousands of suffering families in the name of Jesus Christ," a statement on the group's Web site says. Workers can provide drinking water for up to 20,000 people, materials to build temporary shelters for more than 4,000 families, and household items and medical kits to meet the needs of up to 100,000 people for three months, Graham has said. But some Muslim groups believe Graham has ulterior motives. "Given his past viewpoints, people are suspicious about his real aim, which could be to take advantage of a situation in which people are desperate," said Hodan Hassan, a spokeswoman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Washington, D.C. "They will have food in one hand and the Bible in the other." Graham's group is one of several Christian relief agencies planning to provide war aid. Most do not proselytize, and believe just helping others sends a message about Christian faith. But a spokesman for Graham's group has said religious issues might be raised. "We do not deny the name of Christ," Ken Isaacs of Samaritan's Purse told Newhouse News Service. "We believe in sharing him in deed and in word. We'll be who we are." Graham's comments were in stark contrast to efforts by President Bush to separate his avowed respect for Islam from any U.S. anti-terrorist action. After initially referring to the war on terrorism as a "crusade" and calling it Operation Infinite Justice - lingo that offended some Muslims - the president has said repeatedly that Islam is "a great religion," and has accused terrorists of profaning it. However, the White House angered Muslim groups last week when it nominated commentator Daniel Pipes to the board of the U.S. institute of Peace. Pipes said the grenade attack on U.S. troops in Kuwait by a Muslim-American serviceman demonstrates "the suspect allegiance of some Muslims in government." He earlier wrote that, "There is no escaping the unfortunate fact that Muslim government employees in law enforcement, the military and the diplomatic corps need to be watched for connections to terrorism." Asked about the Graham invitation, Pentagon spokesperson Victoria Clarke said the chaplain's office "invites speakers and religious leaders from all sorts of different places representing all sorts of different faiths and organizations." She said of actions in Kosovo, Somalia, Afghanistan and Iraq, "Clearly were doing this for the benefit of the Muslim people." See: Rev. Understandably, among those who spoke at the memorial service for Betty when she passed were Coretta Scott King, George Pataki, Myrlie Evers, Ed Koch, Maya Angelou, Rudolph Giuliani, Maxine Waters, David Dinkins, Abraham Beame, Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee. Also worth mention was another actualized peak moment of "understanding" that swept through the Muslim community. After the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the Sa'udi Family and the Wahabbi were a little nervous that what happened in Iran, could happen in Sa'udi Arabia. Between the Wahabbi and the Sa'udi Family, hajj was made to be a miserable experience for Shi'ah pilgrims, especially if they were from the Islamic Republic. While Iran was in an eight-year long (1981-1988) defense against U.S.-backed Iraqi aggression, Iran's literary endeavors were such that Al-Sa'ud, the Wahabbists, and the Baathists were the negative object(s) of the Islamic Propagation Organization's world wide mission, until al-Sa'ud and the Muslim clerics struck a truce that has held even unto this day. When Salman Rushdie wrote The Satanic Verses, and because he was a Muslim and knew the consequences of nee-yah and intentionally putting himself in a place of protection beyond the limits of peace, an easily understandable religious ruling came down from Imam Khomeini ordering Rushdie's death. Just as the Will of God is not so easily understood neither it is so easily understood why it is that as of this writing, or for reasons that can only be guessed, the Imam's fatwa was never carried out during or after his lifetime... Never mind that "Shake" and "Spear" figure in the KJV rendering. See: Psalm 46; count 46 words down from the top of the verse, and 46 words up from the bottom... so much for the "inerrant" word of Shakespeare, his mischief and what fools he's been making of the inerrancy crowd since his (46th) birthday (in 1611). ***Ed note: And we as read in Devilations 2:9 "I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and [I know] the blasphemy of them which say they are Christians, and are not, but [are] the synagogue of Satan..." or was it in "Revelations" and wasn't it the "Jews" who were actually targeted by the KJV'ers, even unto this day?? ![]() ![]() Ed. note: By their fruitcakes ye shall know them... Although there are exceptions, most of the troubled and troublesome anti-social, racists and bigots, and real nutso KJV Republican-types, and anti-Socialists speak with the accent and "twang" of the Devil's mother; typically a (white) "southerner" accent.
