Welcome to the Oregon Coast News Signal's Radio! Radio! page... Besides Abbot and Costello's Who's on First?, radio in all of the variations there are have caused only one significant blip on the human perceptions screen, and that is War of the Worlds. Moon Over Morocco and Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy cannot be overlooked in this regard. All else are only variations of the aforementioned; Who's on First? There are three moments in American radio history worth mentioning: "A (blank - worth 3 points) That Will Live Forever in Infamy..." quote; the live reporting of the (blank that rhymes with orange - worth 3 points) explosion and crash, and the 1949 live reporting of a little girl who fell down a well in southern California, and the failed rescue attempt - no points for this one; her name was Kathy Fiscus. The radio institution that had more effect on America, the music, the healing of unfounded hatred between the races to cross-overs and even love was personified in Wolfman Jack, and that's that. Art Bell with a link from this site is appropriate because he does an ongoing variation of the Orson Wells' War of the Worlds hoax every night of the week, plus Dreamland on Sundays. Art has a cast of two or three dozen "players from beyond the fringe" who milk UFOs, crop circles and ghosts for all their/they're worth, and for the participants in the hoax it is worth millions of dollars in book sales, videos, newsletters; admittedly some really entertaining stuff. Entertainment is entertainment and government cover-ups are government cover-ups. There is a place in the air (waves) where the two appear to be meeting, and at Art Bell's station is where the action is more likely than not to take place. Entertainment, muck-rakking, and did we mention the newest wrinkle in politics since the Charlie McCarthy / W.C. Fields Dabate or the 1992 Ross Perot phenomenon?? Stay tuned... |
