In my whole life, from my heart I never, ever thought I'd say, "The Jews this or the Jews that..." or "It is the mission of the Jews for the U.S. to occupy Iraq, just as the Israelis occupy Palestine." Up 'til now, and for the past thirty years, since Sirhan Sirhan killed Robert Kennedy, I've always referred to the "enemy" of the Palestinians as the Israeli and the Zionists. The only fault I ever found with the (monolithic) Jews was their (collective) silence and looking the other way while the Israelis and the Zionists abused the Palestinians. The fact is, the "Israeli" and the "Zionists" are Jews, and by no means am I calling for their rounding up and incarceration and demise. I am saying that the Jews who have taken over the United States government have at their disposal us; the United States of Ameica, and they're using the White House, the Pentagon, and with it the armed forces to carry out their overseas deeds (to "occupy" Iraq just as the Israelis "occupy" Palestine), and John Ashcroft's FEMA domestically to round us up, to incarcerate us, and to somehow dispose of us, while they have at their disposal the U.S. Treasury, not only to run Israel, but the United States and the world too. John Ashcroft is a self-proclaimed Christian Zionist, and as George W is, a dupe of the neocons.

Again, let's really put that picture up in lights on Times Square, and in every city in America where so many American flags waved after 911. United We Stand. Can we do that? Who will pay for it? Yoko Ono had a peace sign featuring a line from a Lennon song up there for months. Why not this? At least to let the world see that not all Americans will abide by disgraces at home and abroad that shames us all. BBC was reporting from Iraq this morning that it is "impossible to underestimate the damage done" to the US war in Iraq. Fox News was debating whether President Bush is right to go on Arab TV channels like Al Jazeera to try to "explain" how upset he was too. Yuk. FYI: A reader advises: "On yesterday's NPR 'Talk of the Nation,' Dr. William Schulz, Executive Director of Amnesty International USA, said that many months ago he expressly directed his agency's concerns and findings on US military abuse of Iraqi prisoners to Donald Rumsfeld and George Bush. Are you picking up on the Abu Ghraib news and the accompanying photos that are so bad they won't pass FCC muster? I point to Molly Ivins sense of decency; that she tries to tell the story in a dignified way.
Some things ordinary Muslims can't don't won't participate in because its just too creepy and makes your skin crawl. Blowing someone up is one thing, it happens in war. Live by the sword (or bomb) and die by the sword (or bomb). It goes with the eye-for-an-eye territory. But there's a do-unto-others component deeply ingrained in an ordinary Muslim's everyday life, and they don't do creepy things even to their worst enemy for fear their enemy could do the same thing to them. Now, I'm not saying that T.E. Lawrence of Arabia didn't take it in the ass. He probably did. What I am saying is that no matter who got caught at (you name the "creepy" behavior), some things just aren't done to people, prisoners or not. Putting a woman's panties over a naked Muslim man's head is bad enough, but with a woman in the same room? That's worse than the beheading of Daniel Pearl. As wrong as that was, "creepy" warfare is even worse because of God's presence - to ordinary Muslims. God help us, that we might be forgiven for our wrong deeds, but there is no help for those who know what's what and then go out and cause someone to be shamed. Technically, Danny Pearl was an honorable warrior and died a honorable death. While even more technically, as warfare goes, he was a civilian and he was a Jew. His killers were chickenshits - for killing a civilian because he was a Jew - technically, a "People of the Book" whose protection is Qur'anically admonished, and even as a prisoner, Jew or not, his rights under Islamic law were denied him. On the Last Day, the chickenshits will pay. So... Joe Biden spoke of "phenomenal damage" to the United States regarding the torture and humiliation of Iraqi prisoners at the hands of U.S. soldiers. Biden is one of the very few who seems to really understand the depth of hell the ongoing for months incidents of mistreatment dug us into with no way out. Biden seems to understand something about human nature that others have missed. No matter how religious we think we are or would like to be, we're not as devoted to our faith as are, say, the Muslim Sufis or the little old ladies doing their Rosary beads after (Catholic) Mass. They live and breathe their love for God. They worship and give thanks to God more than anyone and know His Presence experientially. In Alcoholics Anonymous they call it "conscious contact" with God. Regardless of the degree to which a Muslim is religious, it is understandable that Muslims would be outraged over the U.S. military firing a missile into a masjid full or worshippers, or going to war with the whole town (Fallujah) in retaliation for the killing of four U.S. (private contractor) mercenaries. The Marines went in and there was very little demonstrated outrage or response by the Muslims. Likewise, when Yassin was assassinated there was a minimal response. Never mind that the Fallujahans and Palestinians wake up in the morning out-manned and out-gunned by the U.S. military and the Israeli IDF. Outrage or not becomes a practical matter. Culturally and almost universally, Muslims are a deeply modest people. Compared to westerners generally, embarrassment or shame come way too easy; more instantaneously than devotion no matter how religious the person might be. That's human nature, and it is neither subject to right nor wrong in this instance. While Qur'anically, there is no compulsion in religion, normally decent people are self-conscious. Even the watered-down version of Molly Ivans re-telling of the Abu Ghraib story is shameful. We have proven ourselves to be even worse than Saddam, because (dig the logic) Saddam did his crimes (at Abu Ghraib) and is now in jail, while Bush did his crimes (at Abu Ghraib) and is still runnin' free. See? That's proof of who is worse, in having escaped justice. My skin crawls with sorrow for the Abu Ghraib victims. I would have died or been killed before I would have been forced to take off my clothes in front of a stranger. That's probably what happened to the chap they found on ice. If I'd been black growing up in this country I'd likely have been killed early on. I could not stand being treated in such a humiliating manner as applied racism demanded of blacks, even in the 1950s, even in the 1960s, even now... Joe Biden realizes that what we did to the Iraqis is beyond more horrific than is comprehensible to most westerners. I am not alone in connecting the obscenity of racism and bigotry to the Iraq war in the first place.
